A letter of thanks from Holly Reynolds - December 14, 2006
I wanted to first thank all of you for your kind words of encouragement and support that I have received since my
election to the 2007 TWHBEA Executive Committee last weekend. After being selected by Oregon as their newest Director I
was encouraged to apply for a position on the Executive Committee. After much discussion with friends and family I
decided that my family situation, as well as my business would allow me to take our progressive Northwest ideas forward
to a national level. I put my name into the hat and completed the application process. I am excited to be seated with
some of the brightest minds in the industry, and expect to learn and grow from their association.
I was selected out of 27 other candidates and received a nomination from the TWHBEA nominating committee as their
recommended candidate for the Vice President at Large for the Youth division that most of you know I am passionate about.
A spirited campaign was launched against the TWHBEA committee's nominees by a slate of alternative candidates and for
the first time in many years all but two seats on this board were elected by a close margin. All of the various State
Directors votes mattered.
It is my intention to keep all of you informed with the latest and most relevant information as well as hear all of your
personal concerns for our industry. I hope to continue the nationalization of all TWHBEA programs, support the sound
horse, lend support to the wonderful work already being done by our tireless volunteers and encourage continued
information technology upgrades. As a newcomer I hope to foster renewed dialogs and a fresh ear to old debates.
As for the Youth Division Programs I will continue to develop them with the help of Kathy Potter, of the TWHBEA staff,
Youth committee members and the new 2007 TWHYA Board. I hope to expand our breed further into 4-H, High School Equestrian
Teams and Intercollegiate programs, by educating 4-H leadership, coaches and judges as to the talents of our versatile
breed, and gain a broad base acceptance of our non-trotting horses at this show level.
Many new programs such as the Go Gelding, Ride Across America, and Host a Trail Ride offer exciting positive ways to
promote TWHs in spite of recent industry crises. The DNA parent verification program will both reduce costs from the
'old' Blood typing kits and provide additional information. (Did you know you can return unused blood typing kit to the
TWHBEA for a refund?)
I look forward to hearing the collective wisdom of all of my friends as all of you have shaped my abilities and honed my
skills. Please feel free to contact me at any time with your concerns. I look forward to seeing you at the TWHEAO Annual
lunch meeting on January 13, 2007 and at the Awards Banquet and meetings on February 3, 2007.
Happy Holidays,
Holly Reynolds
